Music Video featuring a Gay Couple

boyzone-headerSinger Stephen Gately is an openly gay member of the musical Irish boyband group Boyzone that was popular in the UK and Ireland in the 1990s.   They reunited in 2007 to tour.   Well, they released a music video in Dec 2008 to the song “Better,” and instead of just pairing Gately up with a women like the other members to make the video, Gately is paired with a male.  I salute the group for making this decision.

Stephen Gately says the decision to include a gay couple in the black and white video was one made jointly by the whole band.

He said: “I came out in 1999 and it was a big issue at the time and I don’t think I could have done this video without having a guy in the video.

“I think it’s important for me to be true to myself.

This is not actually the first mainstream music video with a gay couple, as the Pet Shop Boys showed two men kissing in “Being Boring” in the 1990s, but this is the first where a gay couple is featured.

Here is the official video (double click to view as YouTube disabled embedding :( )
